Открытые лекции и семинары

24 января прошел открытый семинар Максима Обризана "Poverty Trends in Ukraine over 2011-2015".

There seems to be no recent study of changes in poverty in Ukraine after Bruck et al (2010). This is surprising, given that major political, economic and social changes have happened in Ukraine since then. This paper attempts to fill in this important gap in the literature by employing a repeated cross-sectional nationwide surveys conducted in 2011 and 2015 by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology with support of UNITER Project, PACT Inc. Specifically, the paper seeks to identify changes in poverty between 2011 (when there was still no sign of upcoming changes) and 2015 (in the midst of these drastic developments). Analyses are based on income-based poverty measure (self-reported family income) as well as more subjective consumption-based poverty measure (whether a household does not have enough money for food). Based on difference-in-difference methodology the paper identifies characteristics of the most vulnerable households who suffered most.
