Open Dialogue: Discussion on Regional Development
Regional development in Belarus was a new topic of the meetings of experts, journalists, and government representatives under the project Open Dialogue.
Regional development is an essential vector of the economic development of Belarus. However, this topic is underestimated by the national media. To close this gap, it was included in the agenda of the project Open Dialogue organized in cooperation with the Press Club Belarus with the financial support of the Netherlands Fund for Regional Partnership MATRA.
Director of IPM Research Center Alexander Chubrik and BEROC Researcher Aleh Mazol presented the results of their research at the seminar for journalists that was organized in February 2020. Aleh Mazol made a presentation “International Experience of Lagged Regions” where he talked about lessons of regional development of different countries.
Alexander Chubrik talked about the current situation in Belarusian regions in his presentation“Country Where it’s Good to Live and Work, or Why Do We Need New Regional Policy”. The main topic of his presentation was the movement of human resources from regions to the capital and the possible consequences of this trend.
Regional development was also discussed at the round table with the governmental representatives. Vice Director of the Research Institute of Ministry of Economy Natalia Berchenko, Professor of Belarusian State University Ekaterina Antipova, Vice Chairman of Economic Committee of Minsk Regional (oblast) Administration Alexander Rulkevich took part in the event.
Regional development was also discussed at the round table with the governmental representatives.
