Sharing Economy: a soap bubble or a new type of economy?

The paper examines the sharing economy and looks at  the economic, environmental and social factors behind its emergence and evolution, as well as legal and regulatory challenges. The study also discusses the business models of the sharing economy. In order to assess the trends in the development of the sharing economy in Belarus and its regulatory framework the following key sectors have been analyzed: shared transportation, e.g. car sharing,  bicycle-sharing, kick scooter sharing, carpooling; shared accommodation, e.g. coworking; crowdfunding; on-line staffing; sale of goods in the field of C2C; rental of items according to the P2P model; foodsharing. 

This publication targets a broad audience and is from a series of papers on circular economy in Belarus prepared under the Development Project of the Economic Research and Outreach Center (BEROC) supported by SIDA.
