Food Bank Development Strategy: Case of Belarus

Food losses, which occur at different stages of food processing and distribution, cause significant ecological, social and economic damage. One of the effective ways to minimize these losses is to establish national food banks. Nowadays food banks are widespread and work effectively in many countries of the world. In Belarus, a food bank is in its early stage of development. This paper analyzes the work of food banks in Sweden, Germany, Poland, and Lithuania.  The annual volume of food products turns into food waste in Belarus is estimated. Also, several possible strategies for the development of Belarusian food bank are proposed.
