Why Belarusians die?

The modern healthcare system in Belarus is a slightly modified Semashko system inherited from the Soviet Union. The key principles of this system are hierarchization, universal coverage, centralized funding and the overall focus of the system on fighting epidemics. Some of these principles have not lost their relevance a century after their creation, while others require excessive and irrational spending of resources that can be redirected to underfunded goals.
