Intergenerational occupational mobility

This paper studies the intergenerational occupational mobility and the role of gender, education, and social origin in Belarus.  The results indicate that personal and labor characteristics have a significant effect on intergenerational occupational mobility. First, the probability of upward occupational mobility is higher for women and about 27 percentage points higher for people with higher education than for people with primary education. Second, the probability of moving up along the occupational ladder increases on average by about 0.3 percentage points for every additional year of labor experience. Finally, full-time workers are 12 percentage points more likely to experience upward occupational mobility.
