Workshop with Alexander Okunev "Innovations in the management of SOEs of Ukraine: supervisory boards, independent directors"

On February 26, 2019, BEROC with the IPM Business School organized a workshop on "Innovations in the management of SOEs of Ukraine: supervisory boards, independent directors”, which was held at DoubleTree by Hillton.

Alexander Okunev, Chairman of the Board of the Professional Association of Corporate Governance in Ukraine, spoke at the seminar.

About speaker:

Alexander Okunev has many years of experience in implementing consulting projects as a team of consultants for International Finance Corporation (IFC) in Ukraine (1996-2001), International Institute of Business (2001-2012), Ukrainian Institute of Corporate Governance (since 2012). Author of a number of training programs for corporate governance professionals in Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Mongolia. Member of the Expert Council on Corporate Governance of the National Securities Commission of Ukraine. Member of the Board of the National Register of Corporate Directors. Co-author of the first in Ukraine manual on corporate governance (IFC publication, Kiev, 1999); “The handbook of international corporate governance” (British Institute of Directors, London, 2005); author and compiler of the manual “Corporate Governance in Private and Family Companies” (Kiev, 2012), author of over 100 publications on corporate law and management.

The workshop reviewed the experience of corporate governance on the examples of Ukrainian SOEs, as well as the peculiarities of the selection of independent directors, discussed the mechanisms to improve the efficiency of the board of directors. The seminar also focused on corporate governance issues through the environmental management system and environmental aspects. The report was presented by Ekaterina Botyan, Head of the Waste Management Department, Bel RC “Ekologiya”.

The event was attended by management and responsible specialists associated with the development and implementation of state policy in the field of corporate governance, as well as specialists whose activities are related to the work and participation in supervisory boards. The participants included representatives from the Ministry of Economy, the State Property Committee of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Architecture and Construction, the Belneftekhim Concern, the State Property Committees of the Minsk City Executive Committee and the Minsk Regional Executive Committee.
