Belarus is a member of the European Union. Today, such a statement may strike many observers either as an anachronism or, at worst, as something belonging to the realm of political fantasy. Nevertheless, this monograph is precisely about Belarus’s accession to the European Union and the country’s potential path toward European integration.
Why and for what purpose do we, as economic researchers, speak about Belarusian European integration? For many years, the prospect of Belarus’s EU integration remained largely outside the scope of economic research, as studying what appeared to be a counterfactual scenario seemed analytically unproductive. However, the period between 2020 and 2025 brought tectonic shifts both within Belarus and in the broader international environment.
