The Statistical Portrait of Business Associations in Belarus

The article describes the dynamics of business associations in Belarus over the past 30 years. It also presents a general portrait of the companies participating in associations and business unions. The analysis shows that the sectoral associations, presented at the national level, are the most common type; more than half of them represent the service industry. The associations are more often registered during periods of economic crisis and joined by larger and more mature companies. The share of participants in associations is higher among exporters. The members of associations more critically assess the conditions for doing business in comparison with other companies.
The analysis is based on open data on the functioning of businesses associations in Belarus, as well as the SME’s survey data for 2016-2020 years.
