Assessment of the Carbon Intensity of the Belarusian Economy and Payments Under CBAM

The paper analyzes the production-based and demand-based greenhouse gases emissions employing three scenarios which consider different types of emitted gases, as well as direct and indirect emissions. The carbon footprint of the Belarusian economy from domestic consumption and exports was compared with some countries on the basis of the OECD database. In addition, a comparison was drawn between the carbon emission intensity of manufacturing industries in Belarus as well as  in the Czech Republic and Hungary. The study also makes a scenario-based estimation of potentially possible payments for Belarusian products falling within the scope of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), when it is introduced by the European Union.
